Sweet Olive also called Tea Olive suggested by Marti McAree

This shrub is evergreen, blooms in the winter and the scent is heavenly.  It's also easy care.  What more can you ask for?

Family:  Oleaceae (oh-lee-AY-see-ee)

Genus:  Osmanthus (os-MAN-thus)

Species:  frangrans (FRAY-granz)

Category:  Shrub


Height:  Usually 8-10 ft. but can grow to 20 ft.


Spacing:  6-8 ft.


Hardiness:  USDA Zone 7b 

Tempertures in the mid to lower teens can cause

damage.


Sun Exposure:  Sun to Partial Shade


Bloom Color:  White/Near White


Bloom Time:  Mostly fall and winter with

occasional blooms in summer


Foliage:  Evergreen, aromatic, smooth


Other details:  Likes fertile soil; Flowers are fragrant; Once established is fairly drought tolerant


Propagation Methods:  From semi-hardwood cuttings.  From seed allow seedheads to dry on plants; remove and collect seeds.  Seed does not store well; sow as soon as possible
