Winnsboro Projects
Master Gardeners live in all parts of Wood County and are active in small individual projects in their hometowns as well as well as working with the larger projects such as the Wildscape Garden, National EarthKind Rose Trial, and Governor Jim Hogg Arboretum and Botanical Gardens. The work of several Master Gardeners from Winnsboro can be seen around town. They focus not only on beautification, but also educating the community on landscape design, plants appropriate for Wood County and all aspects of creating and maintaining gardens.

beds at the Winnsboro Library with Project Leader
In 2009 the Walking Trails and Flower Beds began to take shape. Walking trails were drawn out, foundations were laid and a beautiful flagstone walkway was placed.

A shaded sitting area with benches and potted plants was placed adjacent to the library, creating a rest area in a lovely setting.

The first flower bed was established along the pathway and near the sitting area with plants to attract birds and butterflies and is complete with hummingbirds and bird feeders.

This has developed into a beautiful area to walk, rest and enjoy nature. More flower beds will be added as the project continues to be developed.
This is an example of an individual project that has benefited the community of Winnsboro and shows what a little imagination and creativity can do for their town.
